Artist To Watch: Dave Preston
For the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of seeing this month’s featured artist, Dave Preston, play all over Denver. And while his raw and natural talent has been featured alongside some great artists, including Paula Cole, Trace Bundy, and One Eskimo, it’s his ambient guitar work, from his debut release BE, that has been recognized across the globe. After receiving internationally syndicated radio play, as well as being featured nationally on NPR, the release debuted in September of 2008 on the New Age Reporter Charts at number 91, shooting to number 66 the following month. That same year, Preston was selected to join the band of an…

The UMS Saves the Denver Music Scene!
The Underground Music Showcase – now known simply as The UMS – is excited to welcome over 300 local and national bands, singer-songwriters, and comedians to 30 of the best local venues when The UMS takes over 10 blocks of Denver’s South Broadway from July 22nd thru July 25th. The UMS, which has grown to be the largest indie music festival in the Western United States in just 10 short years, started as a one day event featuring five local bands. Now “the little fest that could”, as it is referred by Denver Post Pop Music Critic Ricardo Baca, focuses on both national and local independent artists in its tenth…

Hiatus Over
The Idol Insider went to Austin for some extreme music overload at SXSW (South By Southwest) a couple of weeks ago and you may have noticed I’ve been MIA since. Well, friends, the music got the best of me and I crashed hard after one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. And now, fully recovered, I am back and ready to bring you some new incredible tunes from some insanely talented, new artists on the rise. Earlier this year, I introduced you to Matt Morris, who took over Austin playing multiple shows each day during the fest, and earlier today he premiered the I Heart Radio acoustic…

On our agenda: Perez Hilton‘s “One Night In Austin” with Snoop Dogg, Alphabeat, and a surprise guest (I’m salivating with anticipation), Metric playing at Stubb’s, Free Sol, meetings with some of the hottest new bands emerging on the music scene and, of course, I’ll be scouting new talent to bring to you on Idol Insider. Some of our featured artists, including Houses, Matt Morris (with Dave Preston), and Andrea Ball, are also playing down at SXSW and we’re hoping to stop by to show our Idol Insider support! I’ll catch you up when…

Andrea Ball, Artist To Watch, Exclusive, Featured Artist, Flobots, Matt Morris, Review, SXSW, The UMS
Artist To Watch: Andrea Ball
Idol Insider is excited to bring you our new featured artist of the month, Andrea Ball. Ball is a self-described creative individual who “can’t seem to communicate the same way everyone else does”. Instead, she best communicates in beautifully crafted lyrics, telling a story with an arrangement, and expressing emotion with her performance, which is why the stage is where she feels most comfortable. And while she may feel “different from everyone else” at times, this is what makes Andrea Ball one of the music community’s most celebrated new stars. We first discovered Ball in 2008, when her first LP titled Beat Beat Pound made its way to iTunes. A…

EXCLUSIVE: Matt Morris In Denver
After a whirlwind promotional tour surrounding the release of his new album, When Everything Breaks Open, Matt Morris has found his way back home to Denver, Colorado. In the past couple of months, Morris has gone from singer-songwriter to star – performing with Justin Timberlake on the Hope For Haiti Telethon, singing for Ellen DeGeneres, George Lopez, and David Letterman, and appearing on multiple local and cable shows. But it was in his hometown where the very humble and grounded performer got to experience some of his new found popularity for, what seemed like, the first time. On Thursday night, he stopped by one of Denver’s premier venues, The Bluebird…

The Grapevine
A lot of news to report in the world of music and I’m pleased to say a lot of it is in the name of charity. With the devastation continuing to overtake Haiti, celebrities across the board are putting their names, brands, and money towards the cause. For music fans, that means we’ve got a lot of great charitable music to buy. The Hope For Haiti compilation, live recordings from the telethon, is the biggest selling album this week, also making it the highest selling charity CD of all time. Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris‘ version of the song, “Hallelujah” from the telethon is the most downloaded song on iTunes…

Hope For Haiti
Last night network and cable television was filled with Hope. The Hope For Haiti telethon aired last night in hopes of raising funds for relief in Haiti. Live from London, New York, and Los Angeles, stars of all kinds gathered in support. Performances by Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Jay Z, Rihanna, Bono, Sting, Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, Keith Urban, and many more made up the two hours of what will hopefully be a continuation of support from Americans to the country that is in such need right now. Please click the link above and give what you can. You can also download all of last night’s performance on iTunes…

Have A Little Fun Today
Have you heard of Matt Morris? Ha! Well, if you’re keeping up with the Idol Insider you should have answered yes, seeing that we’ve almost exclusively covered his career this year. And we promise that more news is on the way, but before we let Mr. Morris rest, I must share with my readers his performance from yesterday’s Ellen. Not only did Matt rock his single “Money”, but he shared the stage with his album producers, Charlie Sexton and Justin Timberlake (yep, the one and only), closing the show with “Bloodline”. It rocked my face off and I know it will rock yours off, too. So there you have it…

Dave Preston, David Letterman, Ellen DeGeneres, Matt Morris, The Early Show, When Everything Breaks Open
Matt Morris Weekend
Singer, Matt Morris, has had a very busy week in promotion celebration of his debut album, When Everything Breaks Open, available now. He had his record release party at New York’s Drom, where he was interviewed by a slew of publications, including US Weekly. Last night, Morris appeared on David Letterman and then again on The Early Show this morning on CBS, singing his single, “Money”, on both programs . A smart choice by camp-Morris, seeing as the song became quite topical last week in the wake of the disaster in Haiti. Matt performed with a full band, including Denver musicians Dave Preston and Jon Powers. If you missed Matt’s…
