Wednesday Wrap Up: Is Adam Lambert a Queen?
A lot happening in the music world this week, but today’s biggest story caused quite a stir on the net this morning. It was reported earlier today that Adam Lambert, the controversial vocalist who emerged from American Idol a few years ago, was coming to to be legendary rock band Queen‘s new frontman. On the heels of Lambert’s new solo single and a sophomore album in the works, it seemed it couldn’t be true. And later, Lambert confirmed it was in fact untrue. His quote had been used by a “sneaky” reporter to build a story. More on that story, as well as the Top 5 stories of the…

The UMS Saves the Denver Music Scene!
The Underground Music Showcase – now known simply as The UMS – is excited to welcome over 300 local and national bands, singer-songwriters, and comedians to 30 of the best local venues when The UMS takes over 10 blocks of Denver’s South Broadway from July 22nd thru July 25th. The UMS, which has grown to be the largest indie music festival in the Western United States in just 10 short years, started as a one day event featuring five local bands. Now “the little fest that could”, as it is referred by Denver Post Pop Music Critic Ricardo Baca, focuses on both national and local independent artists in its tenth…

Hiatus Over
The Idol Insider went to Austin for some extreme music overload at SXSW (South By Southwest) a couple of weeks ago and you may have noticed I’ve been MIA since. Well, friends, the music got the best of me and I crashed hard after one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. And now, fully recovered, I am back and ready to bring you some new incredible tunes from some insanely talented, new artists on the rise. Earlier this year, I introduced you to Matt Morris, who took over Austin playing multiple shows each day during the fest, and earlier today he premiered the I Heart Radio acoustic…

Idol Recap: Top 20
Idol kicked off this week with the news of Crystal Bowersox entering the hospital for what is rumored to be a severe case of diabetes. The singer’s illness left the producers unsure whether she’d be well enough to sing on last Tuesday’s show, so they pulled a last minute switcheroo instructing the boys kick off the week. And the boys seemed okay with the mix-up on Tuesday night’s American Idol showdown, which brought out a smidge more talent than we saw in the first go around. Unfortunately, compared to the show’s previous seasons it is clear this crop of guys isn’t going to leave viewers overly impressed. The most improved…

Idol Recap: Top 24
American Idol‘s ninth season officially kicked off last Tuesday, as 12 guys and 12 girls performed live for America. The troupe of girls went first, performing a variety of songs chosen by them on Tuesday’s performance show. And there lies the problem: song choice. An early Idol Insider front-runner, Ashley Rodriguez, chose to take on the power ballad “Happy”, but failed to reproduce Leona Lewis’ powerhouse chops. Janell Wheeler, who was another favorite during Hollywood Week failed to create a star quality on stage, letting her nerves get the best of her. Other early favorites, Lacey Brown and Katie Stevens, also failed to shine, picking songs that weren’t suited for…

American TwIdols
American Idol goes live tonight for it’s first round of contestants singing for America’s votes. First up, the girls will face off in a 2-hour episode that is rumored to feature songs by Michael Buble and Leona Lewis. Then, tomorrow night, the boys take the stage to croon their way to the top, which will feature Alex Lambert’s version of Etta James’ “At Last” and Joe Munoz taking on The Who. Thursday’s results show will feature last year’s Allison Iraheta our current Idol, Kris Allen, who are likely coming to hock their struggling albums. Apparently not even Idol producers believe in their albums enough to give them their own night. …

The Ultimate Idol Surprise
American Idol Season 9 contestant, Angela Martin, came into Hollywood week hoping that this year would be her year. Martin, who has tried out for the show three years running and made it to Hollywood each year, has overcome a lot of struggle – her dad was murdered one week before her first shot at the Top 24 and traffic violations landed her in jail her second go around. This year it seemed the Idol hopeful’s dreams were going to come true – she got plenty of on-air time during the audition process and seemed to be a favorite among the judges. So when Kara DioGuardi moved from her seat…

Season 9: Top 24
Last night, the Top 24 contestants were named for Season 9 of American Idol, and after speculation about the future of the juggernaut’s ratings (with the absence of Paula Abdul and the announcement of Simon Cowell’s departure), the world tuned in in droves to catch the new lineup of hopefuls. Idol beat out the Olympics in the ratings war indicating the series is still a top contender for the Spring schedule. Next week, the girls will face off in the first live telecast of the season on Tuesday, while the boys take on Wednesday night – with results on Thursday night. The three night event will showcase the new hopefuls…

Please Be Kind and Remind
Ellen joins the judges panel on tonight’s American Idol as the contestants begin the grueling rounds of Hollywood Week. And while Ellen was excited to join the juggernaut series, it seems all is not well between her and Britain’s bad boy, Simon Cowell. It was recently reported that the two are not speaking to each other after Simon arrived an hour and a half late for the first taping. The talk show host was greatly annoyed with British bully’s tardiness and insisted the producers begin without him. Once Simon arrived, things were tense and continued to escalate from there. A source from the series says, “It’s a lot more tense…
