Idol Recap: Top 16
What is there to say about the Top 16 showdown on last week’s American Idol? It was all wrong — everything from song choice to the hopefuls that got the boot. The girls kicked off the week with a mild “bang”. Most of the ladies failed to make any kind of impression, including Paige Miles, who butchered “Smile” the same way she’s ruined every other song she’s chosen over the past three weeks. And Katie Stevens, once a front-runner, proved she doesn’t have what it takes to take the title. But sadly, neither of those ladies were sent packing, instead it was the most unique contestant, Lilly Scott, and Katelyn…

Season 9: Top 24
Last night, the Top 24 contestants were named for Season 9 of American Idol, and after speculation about the future of the juggernaut’s ratings (with the absence of Paula Abdul and the announcement of Simon Cowell’s departure), the world tuned in in droves to catch the new lineup of hopefuls. Idol beat out the Olympics in the ratings war indicating the series is still a top contender for the Spring schedule. Next week, the girls will face off in the first live telecast of the season on Tuesday, while the boys take on Wednesday night – with results on Thursday night. The three night event will showcase the new hopefuls…

Please Be Kind and Remind
American Idol kicks of its 9th season tonight on Fox with a 2-hour season premiere, featuring all the behind the scenes footage from the Boston auditions. There are plenty of reasons to tune in this season, but the biggest reason came from an announcement made yesterday. Simon Cowell announced that “this will be [his] last season on American Idol” so he can focus on bringing his show, X Factor, to the states in the fall of 2011. Simon said he is very excited to be bringing another great show to Fox’s lineup and even hinted that we may get a chance to see a Paula-Simon reunion when the show premieres. …

Miss Divas?
On Thursday, VH1 revived its “Divas” series with Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, and hosted by Paula Abdul. Now, my first thought was they needed to see a definition of diva because the line up was a little mixed. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Jordin Sparks, but a diva?? Not quite. She needs about 10 more power ballads and at least one more headlining tour, when she isn’t opening for Britney Spears. It was quite heavy with Idol alums, especially with Abdul hosting the evening’s events. I would have gladly traded Sparks for the country diva, Carrie Underwood. But, I guess…

It’s Confirmed! Idol has a new judge!
It has been confirmed that Ellen DeGeneres will be the official new judge on the new season of American Idol. She made the announcement yesterday that she will be joining the judges panel as the voice of the people when the show premieres in January. I wonder how her and Simon will get along, it’s definitely not going to be as catty as Paula’s antics. Check out Ellen making the announcement below: What do you think of this decision? Is Ellen the right choice?

Denver is so Posh
It’s official! Our beloved Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham has arrived in Denver to fill in as a guest judge in the place of Paula Abdul. From the moment the Beck beauty stepped off the plane at DIA (Denver’s International Airport), she lit up the city in her very posh, purple dress. All the judges – Randy, Kara, Simon and even Ryan are here for the official Idol auditions. A production insider has said that Beckham was trying “too hard to be nice”, and with her dry sense of humor it came off “icy and wooden”, which didn’t go over well with the contestants who were already bummed to come to…

Forever Our Girl
The news that Paula Abdul will not be returning to Idol has the world in a frenzy! Past Idol contestants have turned to their Twitter accounts to express their best wishes to the past pop diva. Kris Allen, Chris Sligh, Danny Gokey, Brooke White and more have tweeted their sadness upon hearing the news that a contract could not be reached for between Fox and Abdul. Carrie Underwood even chimed in by saying, “Going to miss Paula on Idol! :(“. So, who’s replacing Paula? With the audition segments being taped in the next few weeks, Idol execs had to move fast. So, while they look for a permanent replacement there…

Straight OUT, Now Tell Me
While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by 19 Entertainment, it looks like the future for our beloved Paula Abdul is clear. Her management released a statement regarding the rumors that the once Dance-Diva would not be returning to the ninth season of American Idol. In a statement, her manager, David Soneberg, said, “Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on Idol.” At this time no contracts have been offered for renegotiation and Fremantle and 19 Entertainment have yet to reach out about a renewal. So, with production starting on August 6th and no signatures on the dotted line, we see this as the end of…

Results Show Spectacular!
Last night’s Idol results show really showed up in a big way. Although, I think the thing is rigged – Alison definitely should have stayed, while Danny should have gone-key! But, the performances from last night’s show were awesome! I wouldn’t have predicted this, but Paula Abdul performance was the highlight of the show. Her comeback performance screamed that she’s ready to be back on top and she was twirling, flipping, and dancing her butt off to prove just that. Then, No Doubt, performed one of their biggest hits, “Just A Girl”, which seemed a little off, but hey they’ve been out of the scene for a while, so they’re…

Top 5: Songs From The Rat Pack
The top 5 knew they would have to set the “standard” when the learned that the shows theme would be Songs From The Rat Pack. I wasn’t thrilled with the theme choice, initially, but after the show I was left wanting more. Each and every one of the contestants brought their A-game to that stage and I didn’t know what to expect. Kris Allen, who is the second best selling Idol contestant on iTunes, set the tone with “The Way You Look Tonight”. This performance really pushed him to new heights and proved he is, as Kara pointed out, the dark horse, who actually has a shot. Especially if he…

Top 6, err, uhhh…7
As disco week kicked off, we could already see some of the urgency to get through the show without running over…again. There was no cheesy opening monologues from Ryan, no long, drawn out judge intros, and, most noticeable, no mentors or short contestant intros. Instead, Lil Rounds went right into her performance of “I’m Every Woman”, but she failed to impress the judges and Simon predicted she’d sung her last song on the Idol stage. For me, it wasn’t the performance that left me confused, it was the lingering question of why she reminded me of a “camel” that night, in her skin tight jumpsuit. Could it have been the…
