First Listen: Kelly Clarkson "Tie It Up"
America’s first Idol, Kelly Clarkson, who has had multiplatinum success with pop anthems and power ballads, is tapping into her southern roots with her latest single “Tie It Up.” The singer first hinted at a promising country career when she teamed up with her childhood idol – and future mother-in-law – Reba on the country legend’s Duets record. Since then, the Texas-native has teamed with Jason Aldean for their massive hit “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and with Vince Gill on the single “Don’t Rush,” which appeared on her Greatest Hits album last year. Earlier this month, Clarkson took a break from recording her upcoming Christmas record to take the stage at…

What The GIF? Vol. 6
It’s that time of year again. For one (very long) weekend in June, Nashville is invaded by the fried-food loving, cowboy boot wearing country fans that flood the downtown streets in hopes of getting a glimpse of their favorite country superstars. Superstars who aren’t anywhere to be found other than their black SUVs and on the main stage at LP Field. But still, this long time tradition once known simply as Fan Fair is a Music City staple. Nashville residents – if not working the festival or with one of the artists playing the festival – typically take the long weekend to travel out of state or hibernate, catching up on…

Country Music’s New Mafia
Move over Big & Rich. Party’s over Gretchen Wilson. There’s a new group of red-red-red-red-rednecks taking over the genre. Although it seems overnight, the rising fame of Blake Shelton and his wife Miranda Lambert has been a steady climb. However, in the recent months the pair have lent their powerhouse celebrity to some of their country-fried friends creating a new kind of country clique. In Shelton’s latest video for “Boys ‘Round Here,” the singer parties with a few of the folks that have joined their posse including country-cutie RaeLynn and ladies from Miranda’s side project the Pistol Annies. Also joining the crew (not featured), pop diva Kelly Clarkson who’s marrying Blake’s manager and Reba…

Maroon 5 & Kelly Clarkson Stronger Together
Unless someone is playing a really cruel April Fool’s Day prank on me, this summer is going to be hot! This morning it was announced that the annual Honda Civic Tour would pair pop-rockers Maroon 5 and America’s Idol (and mine) Kelly Clarkson. Anyone else hyperventilating?! The Adam Levine led rockers just stopped in Nashville last week with Neon Trees and, although the show was sold out, they are skipping the market on the next go-around. Guess Amanda Valentine and I will be hitting the road to Atlanta. Maybe we’ll capture it all on video, so you can see how the fashionista sister of M5’s James Valentine travels in style? Check out the list…

Listen! It’s Vetrano!: What the GIF?
I have a confession. I’ve been a little behind with letting you in on some of my favorite new musical picks, but it’s for good reason (and I promise it’s not only because I recently became obsessed with Homeland and have been feverishly catching up). There’s been tons of new music hitting my ear drums, but unfortunately I am unable to share it with you quite yet. If you’ve been following my Instagram or Twitter feeds lately you may have seen that I’ve been hanging with some of the raddest people on the planet. Though the details of our late night expeditions are better kept under wraps – until my inevitable “tell all”…

Listen! It’s Vetrano!: Reality Hits Nashville
As a blogger in the digital age, I have the pleasure of sharing my thoughts and musical recommendations with thousands of people that I know personally (and intimately *wink, wink*) and others of whom I probably will never get the chance to meet. For those of you in the second category, I’m sorry I’ve neglected to introduce you to my highly inappropriate and snarky side. The side I’m most proud of, really. Since the New Year, I’ve had the pleasure of talking to many of my readers in Nashville about what they want to see on this space. That’s when “reality” hit me. So without further ado I introduce the…

First Listen: Jewel & Kelly Clarkson "Foolish Games"
To accompany singer Jewel‘s upcoming Greatest Hits compilation, she enlisted the power house none other than Kelly Clarkson to record a revamped version of her ’97 hit single “Foolish Games.” Alright, raise your hand if you loved the single the first time around (in case you can’t see, I have both hands raised; one for each version then). Now, seven years later, with the addition of the America’s first Idol the song is better than I could have ever imagined. Listen to Jewel & Kelly Clarkson slay “Foolish Games” below now, but beware you might need a change of pants. I’m just saying … I did.

Best Of 2012
It’s been quite a monumental year for the music industry. We lost one of the greatest voices of all time, while ridiculing a new one when Lana Del Rey emerged nervously on SNL. Adele proved that quality music still sells and Christina Aguilera illustrated that same theory later in the year when her album flopped. We became obsessed with learning to dance Gangam Style, while trying to get “Call Me Maybe” out of our heads. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj fought for cameras promoting the new season of American Idol, while Britney Spears unenthusiastically coached her “teens” on The X Factor. Bubblegum pop returned with acts like Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato…

Cassadee Pope is ‘The Voice’
As I predicted yesterday, Team Blake [Shelton]’s pop-rock diva Cassadee Pope was named the winner of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ during last night’s finale. Pope was a frontrunner throughout the course of the series’ third season with smooth vocal delivery and mainstream beauty. As promised, the finale was a star-studded spectacle with performances by Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, The Killers, Avril Lavigne and more. Each of the final three contestants took the stage with the stars in the 2-hour episode, as well as some of their fellow cast mates. Watch the Season 3 winner take on Imagine Dragons’ “It’s Time” with Liz Davis, De’borah and Melanie Martinez below and then head over…

The Voice: Season 3 Finale
Last night the final 3 contestants on NBC’s hit reality competition ‘The Voice‘ had one last chance to win over America’s vote. Ultimately it was a one-horse race as season frontrunner Cassadee Pope separated herself from the other two with her epic performances of Faith Hill‘s “Cry” and a rerun of her season breakout “Over You” – a track that coach Blake Shelton penned with his wife Miranda Lambert. Shortly after the former Hey Monday frontlady performed the Lambert hit on the show, radio stations across the nation picked up her version as a single. The first time a contestant from the series has had this kind of mass appeal before…
