All Hail M’Queen: Fashion Edition

Hey babes and lovers! My name is Anna M’Queen, lead singer of the pop/electronic group Five Knives. Welcome to “All Hail M’Queen,” an invitation into my mind, experiences, opinions, and sense of all things varsity. “Varsity?,” you ask. Believe me, as you continue to follow my new column on Listen! It’s Vetrano, you’ll catch on to all things M’Queen eventually. To kickoff this journey, I’m talking fashion. Specifically my fashion.
When it comes to my personal style I love to create a look of stylish effortlessness that pushes limits. That’s varsity! For a street look, I usually stick with black and white, and an occasional splash of color. A classic Kate Moss/Ramones look is a timeless style that I definitely use as inspiration. I also love a little 90’s glam-grunge, pairing platform combat boots with a flannel wrapped around my waist or cut-off jean shorts to complete the look.

I’ve never been afraid to show some leg. My motto has always been, “legs or tits… NEVER BOTH.” But since I’m a leg girl, I often lean towards 1960’s mod maxi mini dresses with tights, or thigh highs.  If pants are part of my look, they’re either destroyed denim or black pleather leggings paired with faux fur ANYTHING! Sooo Varsity right now.

Since I spend a lot of time on stage, I try to keep the same vibe as my street style, but challenge the look a little. I may wear a plain white t-shirt, but accompanied by a Moto leather jacket (a must have) to give it a little edge. Or a tailored black suit jacket on top of Madonna-esque leotard bottoms. I like showing my goods without going completely jazzercise… Always keep fashion risks classy and sexy; trashy usually just comes off looking homeschool. I’ve also always been a fan of a glammed up military look, too. Who knows, maybe you’ll see me rocking something like that in the near future.

When dressing up comes into play, I’m not afraid to step out the box and try something new. I’ve always considered myself able to clean up nicely and I have a extremely classy personal side that I never get to experiment with on stage or in press photos. I’m looking forward to upcoming red carpet opportunities, combining my badass stage style with a classy red carpet look, which is sure to cause the best fashion police controversy.

When it comes to makeup, I die over a modern lash with strong thick bottom lashes and a nude lip. Nude lips are so on point and Varsity! When in doubt, a red lip can save the day.. or an outfit! When it comes to completing my look though, my makeup (Anthony H. Nguyen) and hair (Aaron Light) team are the best ever! They keep me looking fashion glam and always on trend. And, “hello?,” aren’t they cute?

So there you have it. My first entry for Listen! It’s Vetrano. I hope you got a little introduction to me and my fashion choices. I’m excited to share my, sometimes controversial, opinions with you in upcoming posts, so let me know what you want me to take to task on Twitter at @anna_mqueen. Until then… bow down, bitches!
