Five Knives’ Sugary New Sound

In 2012, the Nashville based electronic punk rockers Five Knives won me over with their unique and fresh sound in a blossoming EDM (electronic dance music) market. It wasn’t long after their Nashville debut that the band, led by fiery frontwoman Anna M’Queen and includes Nathan Barlowe, Zach Hall and Shane Wise, landed a deal with Red Bull Records and hit the road with their debut EP ‘The Rising‘. After a slew of catchy singles, video premieres and a stint on the Vans Warped Tour, the band got started on their highly anticipated debut full length record, due in February.

On Tuesday, M’Queen and her male bandmates released the new single “Sugar,” which also debuted a slicker, more polished look for the 4-piece band and a more mainstream, pop-influenced sound that is sure to inspire the club kids and DJ’s to keep it spinning long into the new year. Having heard a preview of Five Knives upcoming record, I can assure you that this is just a sample of what is to come. The album will be filled with catchy choruses and infectious beats. And while the new single is awfully fun, the rest of the singles to come are far superior to anything the band has delivered in the past, which says a lot about the band I named the top Artist To Watch on my music blog – Tragic Kingdom – last year.

You can get Five Knives’ new single “Sugar” on iTunes now and listen to the track in full below.

Like what you hear? Download Five Knives first EP The Rising on their website and look out for a special episode of Listen! It’s Vetrano coming to YouTube in 2015 featuring Anna M’Queen. The front woman will sit down with V for Vetrano to talk about the band’s upcoming project as well as play an entertaining game of Dirty MadLibs that might leave you blushing.
