First Listen: Taylor Swift’s New Album Red
In 5 days the now-not-so country Taylor Swift will release her highly anticipated fourth album Red. Over the past few weeks, Swift has released singles one-by-one from the album giving fans a glimpse into the 16-track compilation of pop songs that bear little resemblance to the country ones that came before. In fact with cameos by indie-sensation Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol‘s Gary Lightbody it seems like a record suited for more praise by music blogs than mainstream outlets. And maybe it’s just that which makes it all just a bit coincidental that a blog – this one – which once chose not to feature the teenage sensation is now premiering her entire…

Kellie Pickler emerged with her new traditional country record 100 Proof, Jack & White released their follow up EP Winter and new singles from Lana Del Rey and Bon Iver arrived. But the new tunes aren’t the only things buzzing in the air. This morning, Country’s reigning Queen, Carrie Underwood, announced that her new single, a rockin’ foot-stomper titled “Good Girl”, will be released to radio on February 23rd. See the single’s artwork here and watch…

Best Of 2011: Top 10 Songs
2011 was quite a year for music – some of the biggest albums of our time hit the shelves, legends were made, and newcomers burst onto the scene with feverous vengeance. Listed below are the top ten tracks Tragic Kingdom played on repeat all year long. 10. Foster the People: Pumped Up Kicks. These electronic rockers had a big year and whether you liked it or not, you had to bob your head to the controversial single that seemed to play every 5 minutes on radio all over the country. It’ll be interesting to see where these guys take their next project, but for now let’s retire this catchy number…

Wednesday Wrap-Up: Stronger Edition
As the music industry begins to slow down for the holiday, news is trickling out about what’s to come in 2012. Already the year seems to be buzzing with new talent arriving, like Lana Del Rey, Youth Lagoon and more. As well as a slew of new releases from some of music’s biggest names. A new record from the Queen of Pop, Madonna, is on the way, plus the new one from country’s Prom Queen, Carrie Underwood, a follow up to Adam Lambert‘s controversial debut, the long awaited new record from No Doubt, and rumors of a Watch The Throne part deux. And popping up today, is the new video from Kelly…

Kelly Clarkson: Stronger
It’s been nearly a decade since the world watched Kelly Clarkson, the Texas-native girl next door, take the title as America’s first Idol. Nine years later, and still one of the show’s most successful spawns (aside from country Queen Carrie Underwood), Clarkson emerges with her fifth album entitled Stronger. No stranger to pop-anthems and power ballads – Clarkson’s last efforts taught the master class -, it’s those missing elements that keep this album from actually living up to its title. Sure, the disco-inspired title track “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” has all the makings of a Top 40 mega-hit. It bursts into the turbulent, feel-good chorus we’ve come to expect…

Tragic Kingdom Presents: The Pretty Reckless Videography
From jaw-dropping goth rock to over-synthed pop beats and honky tonk country crooning to piano-driven rock hooks, it’s no secret that my musical influences have ranged all over the map this year. But when I introduced The Pretty Reckless last month, it was clear that I had inducted a new staple into the Tragic Kingdom family. Much like the inspiration for this blog, Light Me Up is an inspirational album from front to back. With Taylor Momsen leading the charge, the band delivers one of the most relevant albums of the year. But the question remains, why hasn’t America – the place where Momsen holds a lead spot on one of…

Artist To Watch: Thompson Square
If your a follower of music, it’s no surprise why Tragic Kingdom is featuring the husband-and-wife duo, Shawna and Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square. The two singers met at a singing competition, where they had immediate romantic chemistry, after moving to Nashville separately to pursue solo careers. And although the chemistry didn’t initially lead them to share the stage, eventually the pair found it making sense. When a mutual friend – who had once tried to pursuade them against forming a duo – saw the pair perform at local Nashville club, he was blown away be their energy and cutting-edge style. It became obvious that their on-stage chemistry could be just as…

The Harder The Life, The Sweeter The Song
Since moving to Nashville late last year, I have learned one thing: Nashville is full of true talent. It’s not just the songbirds who spit out twangy vocals, this town has musicians (some of the best in the world), engineers, publishers, and songwriters. As a new feature to Tragic Kingdom in 2011, the Songwriter Spotlight will give songwriters a chance to get much needed, and well deserved, attention. First up, is by far one of the most sincere storytellers in town, John Edwards. Born in the hills of Lenior, North Carolina, songwriter John Edwards was destined for success. At the age of three, his mother moved John and his brothers…

Julianne Hough Makes The News
Although the biggest story here is probably that, besides being linked to Ryan Seacrest, Dancing With The Stars alum and country singer, Julianne Hough is making headlines across the music industry for her flatlining music career. Early this week, Julianne released the video for her new single “Is That So Wrong” online. In the summer the video appeared on CMT, but was later taken down after sources say the conservative folks at the music television network found it too “wrong” for their audiences. The video showcases Hough strutting around her house doing what she does best: stripping, er uh, dancing… while removing articles of clothes, gyrating her hips, and spreading eagle…
