What The GIF? Vol. 6

Britney GIF

It’s that time of year again. For one (very long) weekend in June, Nashville is invaded by the fried-food loving, cowboy boot wearing country fans that flood the downtown streets in hopes of getting a glimpse of their favorite country superstars. Superstars who aren’t anywhere to be found other than their black SUVs and on the main stage at LP Field. But still, this long time tradition once known simply as Fan Fair is a Music City staple.

Nashville residents – if not working the festival or with one of the artists playing the festival – typically take the long weekend to travel out of state or hibernate, catching up on some much needed sleep. I, on the other hand, typically find myself screaming at the outta-towners, who clog the roads and my favorite establishments, or drinking in a hidden dive bar praying for the weekend’s end.

No matter how you spend the weekend though, you can’t escape the madness that is CMA Fest. So rather than countdown this week’s top headlines in music, What The GIF? has gone country. I apologize to those who were dying to hear more about Amanda Bynes plans to release a rap record, but I’m sure she’ll be delivering more crazy for us to gossip about next week.

Here’s my picks for the Top 10 things that people are whispering, whining, talking and cheering about at and around Nashville’s CMA Fest this year.

#10 – Kristen Bell hosts CMT Awards with Jason Aldean.

#9 – Cassadee Pope debuts her new single, which quickly flies to the #1 spot on the country chart.

#8 – Nashville Gets Renewed For 2nd Season, but plans may move its production out of town.

#7 – Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” wins video of the year at CMT Awards just after she donated $1 million to OK relief, avoiding a PR disaster.

#6 – Taylor Swift performs “Highway Don’t Care” with Tim McGraw & Keith Urban the opening night of CMA Fest.

#5 – Kelly Clarkson works on Christmas album as Nashville temperatures rise.

#4 – Carrie Underwood celebrates 5th Anniversary as member of the Grand Ole Opry.

#3 – The long-awaited Johnny Cash museum opens in Nashville.

#2 – Despite rainy weather, thousands of country fans still honky tonk all over the city.

#1 – Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott gives birth on CMA Fest Stage.

Okay, so that last one didn’t actually happen… yet anyway… but here’s hoping.

There you have it – the most talked about goings on in, and around, Nashville this week. I’m sure glad that y’all are having so much fun in my city, but if one more of you asks me where Taylor Swift lives or how to meet Carrie Underwood, I might just go ahead a slap a bitch.

Now, if you’ll excuse me I need to get back to my life… and some serious drinking.
