Video Premiere: Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble."
Country phenomenon Taylor Swift released her 23rd music video for the single “I Knew You Were Trouble.” today, which conveniently happens to be her 23rd birthday. The video portrays a grittier, rougher version of the Taylor that Swift fans have come to expect from her, documenting a turbulent relationship over the dubstep track. As an obvious fan of indie-darling Lana Del Rey, it’s clear to me that Swift’s latest desert-themed video draws heavy comparisons to Del Rey’s “Ride,” which I drooled heavily over this summer. Despite the comparisons, and without picking one over the other, the darker Taylor is a welcomed change. Watch Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.”…

Interview with The Voice’s Liz Davis, Part II
On Thursday, I posted the first part of my Nashville interview with The Voice‘s Liz Davis. If you missed it catch up here and then enjoy the conclusion below. Interview with Liz Davis (continued)Chris: The show is shot in Los Angeles and you spent a significant amount of time there this year. Which do you prefer: LA or Nashville? Why? Liz: I love L.A., but I’ve got to say Nashville. Nashville is my home, I’ve been here for seven years. I actually see some parts of L.A. in Nashville, but overall I prefer a small town. I’m a country singer and this feels more me. I love the beach and weather in…

First Listen: Taylor Swift "Red" Bonus Tracks
Last week Tragic Kingdom was the first – and only – place to stream Taylor Swift‘s Red in its entirety. Since then, you’ve flooded my Twitter requesting the bonus tracks – yes, I heard your plea. Typically I’d send you to Target or Wal-Mart to hear those tracks, but I’m feeling extra generous this week. Maybe because the holidays are right around the corner? Or my love for all things pumpkin-flavored has been satisfied with the taste of Fall? Whatever the reason, I’m once again delivering your chance to be the FIRST to hear these six bonus tracks, which appear on the deluxe version of Red this Tuesday. You’re welcome. And as a thank you,…

First Listen: Taylor Swift’s New Album Red
In 5 days the now-not-so country Taylor Swift will release her highly anticipated fourth album Red. Over the past few weeks, Swift has released singles one-by-one from the album giving fans a glimpse into the 16-track compilation of pop songs that bear little resemblance to the country ones that came before. In fact with cameos by indie-sensation Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol‘s Gary Lightbody it seems like a record suited for more praise by music blogs than mainstream outlets. And maybe it’s just that which makes it all just a bit coincidental that a blog – this one – which once chose not to feature the teenage sensation is now premiering her entire…

First Listen: Carrie Underwood "Two Black Cadillacs"
On May 1st, Carrie Underwood returns with her fourth studio album Blown Away. The fourteen track country crossover album, including the hit first single “Good Girl”, was named one the “Most Anticipated Albums of the Year” by Entertainment Weekly. After first listen to the country record, the standout track tells a dark story of man who faced the result of two women scorned by his infidelity. “Two Black Cadillacs” is what country music has lacked since the genre became obsessed with mainstream appeal, ironically when Underwood’s Idol win landed her in Nashville and Taylor Swift hit the road with the Jonas Brothers and Justin Beiber. Listen to “Two Black…

Hollywood With A Touch of Twang
One of the best things about moving to a new city is discovering its local cuisine and the favorite hot spots of its residents. In Nashville, this means being in the company of some chart topping artists and well-known songwriters. Since my move to this great city, which was almost a year ago (WOW!), readers, friends and family have asked me my recommendations on my favorite spots in town. Although a bit of a detour from the music-related posts, I put together some of my picks to add to your itinerary if you’re planning a trip to Music City anytime soon. Start your day at one of the great coffee…

The Best Of 2010
As I prepare to celebrate another year’s end, I can’t help but reminisce about the whirlwind year that has passed by so quickly. If 2010 brought one thing, it was great music. Some of the best albums of the new millennium’s decade popped up in its last year and I was there salivating over each and every note. This year also granted me access to some new discovery, as I traveled to music festivals across the country, including South By Southwest and The UMS, discovering bright new gems to add to my ever growing playlist. And finally, my year ended with a move east to the “Crazy Town”: Nashville, Tennessee.…
