Yes She Can!…And Did!
For the first time in 9 years, a female took home the top spot at the Academy of Country Music Awards tonight. The reigning Top Female Vocalist and America’s Season 4 Idol, Carrie Underwood, was named the seventh female to be nominated as entertainer of the year and was the first to score the honor since 2000, when the Dixie Chicks were awarded the honor. Congrats to Carrie, who also received the award as Top Female Vocalist again and performed twice throughout the evening. Check out the video highlights from the night, the speech needs a little explanation if you missed the awards: Brooks & Dunn perform with Rascal Flatts,…

Top 9: Top Downloads
When the theme for the Top 9 show was revealed I wasn’t optimistic. I thought that it was a bad idea to ask wannabe talent to sing, essentially, their favorite song because I figured most would end up sounding like, at best, good karaoke versions. And, just as Simon usually is, I was right. And I know that some of you will turn on me, but I…

Top 10: Motown
Motown week started with a “bang”, literally, as the hopefuls stepped on the stage with their new styles, haircuts, and looks, brought to you by the Idol stylists. The most notable change was in the horrible wig choice by Lil Rounds. Was I was on the edge of my seat hoping that the thing would slip right off her head in the middle of her “Heatwave”? But really, the night brought some real, as Kara would put it, artistry. The front runners for the evening were Matt Giraud, with his JT-style take on “Let’s Get It On”, Kris Allen, who took his performance to new heights with “How Sweet It…

"Keep Voting"
At this weekends Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon, American Idol won for favorite reality show. David Archuleta and Paula Abdul were on hand to accept the award. Why is David Archuleta, the runner up from last season, accepting the award? Not Simon Fuller or, hell, even Simon Cowell? At least they had Paula Abdul there, but should she really be allowed to be that close to all those children? Luckily, David Archuleta didn’t let her get one word in during the acceptance speech, although it was entertaining to watch her try. Obvisouly someone coached him, “Do not let Paula speak”. The last thing Idol needs is her spouting off at…
