    United For Joplin

    May 27, 2011 /

The boys of The CO are at it again – using their gift of music to help heal the world one song at a time. Last week, the world was shocked with the news of the tornado that plowed through Joplin, MO, the lives it claimed and the devastation it left behind. In a joint effort with United Way, The CO is releasing a new single – a never before heard version of “Be OK” – through United for Joplin and donating 100% of the proceeds to the relief efforts.  Troy Akers, from the band, said “we are so honored to give this song to Joplin in support … hoping it goes…

Artist To Watch: The Pretty Reckless

    May 16, 2011 /

It’s late in the day, Sunday afternoon, and I realize I’m severely behind in introducing you to the latest featured artist in the Tragic Kingdom family.  And it’s not that I want to keep you in the dark any longer, but every time I sit down to start typing away, I end up getting lost in awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping video clips and interviews from the latest addition to our growing community. If you had told me I’d be introducing Taylor Momsen to the site a few years ago, when she was just known for her role as the innocent-turned bad girl Jenny Humphrey on The CW’s Gossip Girl, I would have…

    STREAM: "Camo" by The CO

    April 29, 2011 /

As April kicked off, Tragic Kingdom introduced you to the latest crop of talent added to our growing list of featured artists.  The CO is one of the most promising new talents featured since Neon Trees appeared on the site around this time last year. And if following in the same footsteps, it could be an exciting year for these pop-rockers.  In the coming weeks, the band will be releasing a special packaged version of their new single “Camo”, which will include the original track, an acoustic version, a remixed take, and a brand new video to accompany the song. To close out the month, the band is giving Tragic…

Tragic Kingdom’s featured artist this month, The CO, stopped by 12th & Porter in Nashville for a charity event, raising awareness for the DALIT Freedom Network – click here for more information – and the boys rocked.  Despite the sound guy’s unfortunate performance, we captured the newest members of the Tragic Kingdom family performing their latest single “Camo” for your enjoyment. The single will be released digitally later this month, along with a whole slew of goodies from the band.  And Tragic Kingdom is gearing up to bring you a little something special from Collin, Troy and Nate, as well.  So, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook for updates, exclusive…

Neon Trees Surrenders For Promotional Purposes

    April 11, 2011 /

It looks like Neon Trees, who Tragic Kingdom named the Best of 2010, is going to have another big year. Their newest single, “Your Surrender”, is burning up radio stations all across the country including Radio Disney thanks in large part to the song’s partnership with Disney’s Prom movie which hits theaters at the end of the month. Don’t get me wrong, Neon Trees and Disney doesn’t quite scream “match made in heaven”, but I am far from calling Tyler Glenn & Co. sellouts. Think about the promotion that the folks at Disney put into anything attached to their name.  No doubt this video will play in between a number…

    April 9, 2011 /

Gwen Stefani, the leading lady of No Doubt, called into Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show yesterday to talk about her visit with the latest crop of American Idol hopefuls.  During the interview, Stefani delighted fans with the news that the band’s long (overdue) album will be out this year, definitely…. er, um, hopefully. Obviously inspired by the band, I cannot wait to see what their new tunes will sound like and how this next era of their long, successful career will play out.  Listen to the whole interview below for some details on the upcoming release below. To skip the Idol chat and get right to the No Doubt news, start playing…

    Artist To Watch: The CO

    April 4, 2011 /

Now that jokes and pranks have subsided, it’s time to introduce you to Tragic Kingdom’s featured artist for April.  It’s not often that you stumble upon music that is so compelling and rich in content it moves you to action.  However, when I first heard The CO, made up of Collin Brace, Troy Akers, and Nate Fleming, I was reminded of why I love this industry.  The trio, who are joined by Will Harrison and Phil Snowden when they hit the stage, are a Nashville based band setting out to break the mold of the city’s stereotypical sound. In January of last year, the band released their debut self-titled album…

    Britney Spears: Femme Fatale

    March 21, 2011 /

With only a week remaining until the reigning Princess of Pop, Britney Spears, drops her seventh studio album, you can already hear the music industry’s most well-oiled machines greasing up to embark on the next era in the entertainer’s career. It doesn’t seem long ago that those keyboard power chords of “Baby One More Time” first impacted our stereo. Yet with so much personal turmoil and public scrutiny it’s hard to remember some of the professional highlights from the seasoned star, who’s closing in on 20 years in the industry. One thing that is not hard to forget however, is the formula. Each of the last six Spears albums delivered…

    Exclusive: Tragic Kingdom Presents

    March 17, 2011 /

Happy St. Patrick’s day! Today is a special day for Tragic Kingdom and not just because I have a special place in my heart for anything green.  As you know, I designed Tragic Kingdom with the intent to expose exceptional new talent and create a place to discuss the industry’s biggest stars. Our latest artist featured, Michael Shoup, was excited to take part in a new project, I’m calling Tragic Kingdom Presents, that joins our featured new talent with those more well-recognized, but still tragically adored. This week also marks the 25th anniversary for the SXSW Music & Media Conference in Austin, Texas.  As you might remember, it last year…

Exclusive: Behind The Session with John Edwards

    March 15, 2011 /

Tragic Kingdom recently had the opportunity to stop by a studio session with our latest featured songwriter, John Edwards, to preview a few of the newest songs in his catalog.  On February 16, Edwards along with Rich Redmond, Kurt Allison, and Tully Kennedy spent the day at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville laying down the tracks.  The songs, which included “Bad”, “Our Summer of ’69”, “Stays In Vegas”, and “Your Best Move”, sounded great and with ‘the boys’ adding their hit-making spin, these soon-to-be classics should be burning up the airwaves in no time. Check out this video preview of the tracks, which also gives you a glimpse at what a day…

    Artist To Watch: Michael Shoup

    March 9, 2011 /

When it came time to pick Tragic Kingdom’s featured artist for March it was a tough decision.  With my latest move to Nashville, country music has become so relevant (as you’ve clearly witnessed by the blog’s recent country takeover), but I wanted to do something special this month.  I wanted to prove to the readers that Nashville is more than hillbilly rockers and twangy crooners. Despite the hicktown stereotypes, it wasn’t hard to find a variety of talents spanning all genres, many of whom will be featured in the coming months.  When I first moved to town, I stopped by a writer’s round at a local venue near my new…
