Listen, we could all use some extra cash, right? Looking for a fun way to make money? By monetizing your personal passions, you can do the things you love and get paid for them. Here are just a few common passions that can be turned into profit.

Fashion & beauty

If you’re a fledgling fashionista or a budding beauty expert, there could be many ways for you to turn your passion into profit.

Becoming a fashion designer, a beautician or a model are the three routes that most people want to take. These are often also the hardest routes because they’re so fiercely competitive and because they require a bit of training. However, if you’re determined enough, you can get your foot in the door.

The key is often to find your niche. By focusing on a very specific type of fashion or a very specific type of beauty, you can reduce your competition and find a way of standing out. Try to become an expert in this niche and show off your expertise via a blog or a vlog. If you’re interested in modeling, social media is the way to build credibility in today’s world.

Blogs, vlogs, and social media pages can be monetized. Some bloggers and vloggers run paid reviews of products, while others are able to amass such a large following that they can make money through ad revenue. Social media can meanwhile be used to gain influence which you can charge people for – a small fashion designer may be willing to pay you to model their clothing for instance on your Instagram page.

You can even start your own shop for selling clothes or makeup. This could be a physical shop, a market stall or an online store. You can start it as a side hustle and then focus more attention on it as it grows.

Sports

If you love sports, there could also be many ways of turning this passion into profit.

You may not have what it takes to become a paid athlete, but you may be able to make money coaching others if you have a certain level of training in a sport. This could be via one-on-one classes or you could set up a club.

Meanwhile, if you’re more of a sports fan than a participant, you could consider sports journalism. While writing for a newspaper or commentating on the radio aren’t easy roles to obtain, there are easy options such as setting up a blog or a podcast. With enough readers/listeners, you can monetize this through ads.

You could even make money from sports betting. While this is a form of gambling and not a form of steady income, some people are able to put in strategies to maximize their winnings. This could include using guides such as this one on Houston Texans Super Bowl bets to educate yourself before betting. Only ever bet as much as you can afford to lose.

Music

Sing or play an instrument? While making money as a musician can be hard, there are alternatives to playing gigs and recording albums that may not be as challenging as you expect. This could include becoming a music teacher, offering services as a freelance session musician, or composing music for radio jingles and internet ads.

If you don’t fancy yourself as a musician but simply love listening to music, there may also be ways to turn this passion into an income. For instance, you may be able to set up your own music blog or music vlog. From music reviews to reactions, there are many ways in which you can make money off of ad revenue and sponsors. You could even make money selling vinyl.

You could also make money as a dancer. Even if you don’t see yourself as a professional dancer, there may still be ways to make money through basic dance tutorials online.

Health & Fitness

The health and fitness industry is huge. If you’re a health guru or a fitness freak, there could be countless ways of turning this passion into profit.

Most people choose to become a personal trainer or a nutritionist. Such roles can be competitive, but you can carve a lane for yourself by discovering your USP. For instance, if you’re a personal trainer, you could decide to focus on postpartum exercises or marathon training or bodybuilding.

As with many of the other passions listed in this post, you could also consider starting a blog or a vlog as a way of making a little extra. Many people read fitness and nutrition blogs and watch fitness and nutrition videos. If your content is popular enough, you could make money through ad revenue. Alternatively, you could make money reviewing products such as exercise gadgets or nutritional foods.

If you enjoy cooking, there’s also the option of creating your own healthy foods and selling these. You may have already discovered a recipe that you can mass-produce and share with the world.

Animals

Are you an animal lover? There are many ways to make money working with animals beyond becoming a vet.

Dog walking and dog sitting are two popular side hustles that anyone with a love of dogs can start up. You could even take things further and try a dog grooming course – a job that can allow you to work dogs and make a fair amount of money.

Pet breeding is another way to make money as an animal lover. You’ll need to do your homework and make sure you’re following regulations, but this could be a great way of turning care for animals into an income.

Travel

There are lots of jobs that involve travel. While you can take up odd jobs as you travel or become a digital nomad, there are ways in which you can turn the act of traveling into an income. This could include setting up a travel blog or a vlog to record your travels while offering tips and insights to readers/ viewers.

Alternatively, you could seek a career working for a travel company. Cruise ship work and airline work could allow you to travel all over the world. You could even look into tour guide work.

Movies

Are you a big movie buff? This too may be a passion that can be turned into profit.

If you’re interested in cinematography, you may be able to become a videographer shooting short films for people, music videos, or instructional videos. This could provide you with the stepping stone to becoming a filmmaker.

Another intuitive way to make money as a movie buff could be to set up your own film club. You could pay people to join and then make a habit of watching a new film each week (and possibly discussing it as a group after).

Then there’s the option of selling movies. There are people out there that collect rare video cassettes and DVDs. The likes of the Disney vault could be an effective investment strategy for making money.

Gaming

Turning a love of gaming into an income isn’t easy, but it can be done.

Aside from helping to design video games, there are jobs offered by developers that involve testing games for money. Such jobs may require a knowledge of programming as part of the job could also include fixing any bugs you find.

There’s then the option of becoming a professional gamer, which is even harder. This involves taking part in tournaments that have cash prizes – these are few and far between, but they do exist.

An easier way to make money from gaming could be to set up your own gaming vlog or blog. This could include writing reviews or creating ‘Let’s Play’ videos. As you build up a following, you may then be able to make money through ad revenue and sponsors.

Arts & Crafts

Arts and crafts hobbies include everything from jewelry making to carpentry. These can be a great form of extra income.

You could allow customers to design products for you to craft, or you could craft your own collection of unique works. Craft fairs and sites like Etsy are great places to sell these craft items. By honing your craft, you can develop a style that helps you to stand out.

Drawing and photography could be other arty skills that you can turn into a profession. From selling stock photos to illustrating books to designing logos, there are lots of ways to use these skills and make money.

Gardening

If you love gardening, you could also consider turning this into a source of income. Many people hire landscaping services and gardeners to tidy their yard for them. This could be a great freelance job to start.

Alternatively, you could start growing and selling your own produce. With a greenhouse or a vegetable patch, you can start growing edible plants, which you can then sell locally to people in your area.
