Kristen Doute on Motherhood, The Valley Season 3, and Finally Owning Who She Is
If you have been watching Bravo long enough to remember Kristen Doute as the chaotic center of Vanderpump Rules, the version of her that shows up on The Valley Season 3 might catch you off guard. Not because she is unrecognizable — she is still sharp, still funny, still deeply honest about everything — but because she is settled in a way that feels genuinely earned.
Kristen joined The Gist this week for a wide-ranging conversation that covered new motherhood, her evolving relationship with Luke Broderick, where things really stand with co-star Janet, and why she still considers watching herself on camera the most important tool for personal growth she has ever had.
Filming The Valley With a Three-Month-Old
One of the most talked-about aspects of Kristen’s storyline this season is the rawness of her first year of motherhood, captured on camera in real time. She did not sugarcoat it.
“Filming with a barely three-month-old was definitely difficult,” she told The Gist. “You see the struggles. It’s like every time I see Nia and I, it’s the juxtaposition — Nia’s floating when she walks and I’m clunking around asking if the baby is okay.”
But she is glad they made the decision to let cameras into that chapter. Without it, she says, the show would not be honest. And honesty, for Kristen, is the whole point.
What She Wants You to Understand About Luke
One of the more surprising — and moving — moments in the conversation came when Kristen talked about what she hopes audiences take away from this season’s harder moments between her and Luke.
“I realize how very few resources there are out there for men in postpartum and for first-time dads,” she said. “Luke is such a manly man protector of all, wants to be the leader of the family, and I’ve realized watching the show back that he feels pretty helpless.”
She asked fans directly to extend more grace to him — not because her feelings were wrong, but because first-time parenthood is genuinely disorienting for partners too, and Luke’s vulnerability on camera is something she finds remarkable given how difficult that is for him.

The Valley Fills a Gap That Bravo Didn’t Know It Had
When asked how The Valley compares to Vanderpump Rules in terms of what it means to connect with audiences, Kristen was clear about why she thinks the show works.
“We have the party shows and then we have the housewives,” she said. “Where’s that middle ground?” The Valley, she argues, occupies a lane that did not exist before — adult relationships, real transitions, parenthood, long friendships under pressure — and the Vanderpump audience has grown up alongside them, making the connection feel especially personal.
On Jax, Janet, and the Season Still Ahead
Kristen was candid about both. On Jax Taylor’s absence from the show this season, she described the atmosphere as “lighter and funnier,” adding that a certain kind of heaviness lifted once his presence was removed — particularly for Brittany. On Janet, she confirmed the two did sit down and try to hash things out, but walked away without anything that made her feel the conversation was worth continuing.
“I’m kind of with the audience right now,” she said. “Like, what do these conversations look like? Where is this going to go?”
As for the season overall? Her one-word description was “hilariously chaotic,” and she promises there is still plenty coming.

The Glow-Up She Did Not Plan
Perhaps the most resonant moment of the conversation came at the end, when Chris asked what Kristen would say to her Season 1 Vanderpump self.
“I would give her a really big hug and just tell her to hang in there,” she said. “She needed a lot of love back then. Not a whole lot of confidence.”
And if that version of her could see where she is now? Kristen did not hesitate. “I think she would just be crying because we have the most perfect little baby girl. And it took a lot of work to get here. But that’s what she always wanted from a very young age.”
Between the Vanderpump villain and the Valley mom, there was a Kristen who figured out how to own the chaos instead of fighting it. And it turns out that version of her is the one audiences have been waiting for.
