On The Rise: Jackson Guthy Q&A + Win Tickets To Summer Break Tour
You may have first seen 17-year-old Jackson Guthy on The Ellen DeGeneres show, where the music-loving talk-show host gave the singer a chance to show off his talents in 2011 – and then again earlier this year. Since his first appearance on the show, Guthy has toured with acts like Big Time Rush and One Direction and released a number of catchy singles. The pop act will release his EP entitled Launch later this year, which will include tracks “Bad Boy” and “Brothers & Sisters.” This Friday, Guthy kicks off his 38-city tour opening for Victoria Justice and Big Time Rush on the massive Summer Break Tour.
If you don’t yet know about this LA-based newcomer, V for Vetrano is giving you the chance to get to know him better as my first pick for Tragic Kingdom’s “On The Rise” week. Check out my interview with the singer and enter to win a pair of tickets to see him up-close and personal on the Summer Break Tour.
Chris Vetrano: You first performed on The Ellen DeGeneres show in 2011 and returned earlier this year? How was this time different than the first?
Jackson Guthy: Over the past two years, I have changed a lot and matured both as a person and an artist. Being on national TV is nerve wracking, but this time around I was definitely more prepared and comfortable.
Chris: Your EP entitled Launch is due out later this year. What song are you most excited about fans hearing and why?
Jackson: There’s a song off my EP called “Brothers and Sisters” that is definitely a bit different than most of my other songs. It’s more personal and mature than anything fans have ever heard from me. I’m honestly excited about fans hearing all of my new stuff. I’ve been working with Alex Marshall from The Cab and my whole sound is different. Way more mature, but still me.
Chris: What is your favorite song to perform live? And why?
Jackson: Any of my new songs, but I’m super excited to perform “Pretty Ladies.” I think fans are going to love it. The song is really catchy and you can’t help but dance.
Chris: You’re hitting the road with Big Time Rush and Victoria Justice on the Summer Break Tour. Do you have any pre show rituals?
Jackson: About a half hour before show time, I just begin to focus and do my vocal warm ups.
Chris: I’m sure you’ve gotten to meet a ton of your fans on the road. What’s been your favorite gift from a fan?
Jackson: I’m a huge Chipotle fan, and fans know that, so they give me loads of Chipotle gift cards that I go through pretty quickly!
Chris: Well, I’m sure fans will want the chance to meet you on the Summer Break Tour. Are you doing meet and greets, or is there a place your fans can stop by to see you?
Jackson: We’re setting up meet and greet locations at each venue where fans will be able to meet me, hang out and get my music for free. I’m pumped to meet everyone at each date! My dog Cruz will also be along for the trip, too.
