I Told You So

Idol-related Update: It looks like America has spoken, again – Kelly Clarkson’s new album, All I Ever Wanted, took the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts moving over 255,000 copies its first week out. Congrats to Kelly on her 2nd number one debut – the first was her debut release, Thankful, in 2003. Her follow ups, Breakaway and My December took the 2nd and 3rd spots their opening weeks. If you haven’t yet purchased Clarkson’s newest gem, you’re falling behind the rest. It’s a little early to predict, but Billboard is already predicting a second week in the top spot for All I Ever Wanted. For more on that story, click here.

Taylor Hicks, on the other hand, who also debuted his new release, The Distance, last week (yes, he’s still making music), faught his way into the #58 spot on the Billboard 200 charts, selling nearly 9,000 copies. Oops! Missed again, Taylor. If you want to ride the success of Idol, you might not have chosen a release date that competes with the reigning Idol diva. It probably wouldn’t have made much difference, though, seeing as how the Punk Goes Pop compilation landed at number 15.

And last night’s American Idol joined two of country music’s biggest acts, as previous Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, performed her new single “I Told You So” with the original creator of the classic country hit, Randy Travis. Carrie’s rendition of the song showcases her beautiful vocals, but it looks like Travis’ time in the spotlight might be coming to end. Take a look (although due to Carrie’s unfortunate hair choice, it might be better to close your eyes) and enjoy. The new duet version of the song is now available on iTunes, too!
