Artist to Watch: Sol Cat

Would you believe me if I told you there was a new band with a cool sound that was worthy of your ears coming out of Nashville? Of course you would. And not only because Nashville was recently named the #1 music scene by Rolling Stone magazine. It’s no surprise considering the amount of talent oozing from this great city, so without further ado let me introduce to you to Music City’s latest noteworthy act Sol Cat.

I got to sit down with a couple of the guys from the emerging rock band a few weeks ago to talk about their new album, new video (seen below) and where their name came from. We met at a coffee in shop in East Nashville and, although the two guys showed up over an hour late and reeked of their wild night, it was clear that the their groovy rock music style is quite authentic to their laid back lifestyles.

As the guys were coming to from their hangover haze that morning, I did manage to find out that the name Sol Cat really has no meaning. In fact, it was overheard at a casino table by the band’s frontman Brett Hammann while on vacation. Although it didn’t have any significance then, the name stuck.

As you can see from the “riveting” story told, there’s really not much to reveal about this indie rock band. So rather than go on and on about why these dudes have the spotlight on them, it’s best to let the music do the story-telling. The first single from their self-titled record, out now, is a catchy groove-inspired track called “Dirty Glasses,” which is capturing the attention of their growing fan base and Nashville’s music-lovers.

Watch the video for the track below and if you like what you hear go pick up the band’s full length album on iTunes now.
